[Agora Object] S 586: Herm Portrait: Inscribed

Completely preserved except for phallus. The top of the head is flat and rough-picked, and was probably originally finished with stucco. Realistic portrait of an elderly man, the lines and folds of flesh ... Period of Hadrian ... Cistern A, a late Roman deposit south of the Hephaisteion. The head and stump found 24 May 1935, the rest 22 May 1935.

Broken off at neck; nose damaged. Woman's head bent sharply back, hair wrapped tight in handkerchief (?). Mouth partly open showing teeth; lips broken. Probably the head of the carrying figure of S 429 ... 6 June 1936 ... Well ca. 72.50m. south of Hephaisteion.
