Pit cut into bedrock at west and north; fill continues beneath later wall (“Wall A”) at east. ... We reached a maximum depth of 59.781m by the end of the 2016 season, but more remains to be excavated. 2017-2018: Upper level disturbed by modern water pipe at southwest and Wall A (probably Hellenistic) at east. ... Three steps cut into bedrock at north. Seven standing mudbricks line the bedrock wall at south, surrounding a ceramic stand, hand-formed on a cut bedrock base.

Mycenaean Chamber Tomb occupies a considerable part of the western half of section ΕΕ; lies about half way up the north slope of the Areopagus towards its eastern end, just below the highest point of the ... Myc. III A:1 ... The tomb consists of a roughly rectangular chamber approached from the north by a long dromos. it is entirely hewn out of the rock of the hill and except for the wall of rough stones that blocked the doorway, there is no masonry. ... It was originally several meters longer but its northern end was cut off by a late Roman retaining wall. For most of its length it is about two meters wide, but near the door of the chamber it widens slightly to about 2.40m. ... About a meter below this, and again over the southwest quarter of the chamber, was a corner of light rubble wall of late hellenistic times.
