Lucy Talcott was the first to link this cup with the Berlin Painter and thought it might even be his earliest preserved work. In 1958, Martin Robertson published detailed arguments supporting this attribution (AJA 62, 1958, pp. 55--66), a view he tells me he now no longer believes.
