| First interpretation: archaic female head.
Broken off at neck. All much rubbed.
The hair over the brows indicated by shallow parallel grooves; the back part of the head covered by a veil (?).

| Complete.
A small plump bird with spreading tail, rather long thick neck, stumpy legs and a comb. An extra "leg" under the tail helps him to stand.
Handmade.

Hair hanging beside face; bound wreath, or roll of drapery, around top of head, with a projecting knob above it.
Traces of white.
Buff clay.

Well on the lower west slope of the Areopagus. Tiled well. The tiles were carefully made and clamped together with lead, two clamps at each joint.
