Title:   Statuette Fragment on Round Base
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Unfinished small statuette, the round base and the body below the waist are preserved. On the base the tool marks are clearly visible.
The body is only roughly blocked out, nearly square in section, with rounded corners. On the back are vertical grooves; on the front, left rough, is a small projecting knob, slightly above the point where the knees should be. In it a small hole, perhaps for pointing? The feet protrude from the mass of the body, much as the feet of an archaic statue, from beneath its garment. On both sides of the feet are coiled serpents.
White marble, possibly Pentelic.
The upper part was added 1955 from circled marbles in Section Ζ .
Cf. T 392, without serpents, found at the same place.
Context:   Lower part of statuette: gravel fill of east branch of Great Drain, late Roman fill. Upper part in circled marbles in section Ζ.
