| Title: | Handle Fragment with Relief Decoration | |
| Category: | Pottery | |
| Description: | Lower part of handle and a little of adjacent wall reserved in two joining fragments. From a closed wheel-turned vessel with an almost horizontal shoulder. From shoulder rises a mould-made handle adorned with grapevine in relief; trace of moulded decoration at base of handle might indicate continuation of moulded pattern (applique) over body(?). The body is of fine cinnamon-brown micaceous clay. The clay used for the handle is slightly more red in color and is full of airholes, many of which are exposed in the surface through the glaze. Orange-red typical Samian glaze on the exterior. Cf. P 21365 and P 22409 for applique handles on Samian A bowls. | |
